DHARWAD: For book lovers, it was a treat. The book exhibition-cum-sale as part of Sahitya Sambhrama became an instant hit.
The literary event not only provided a stage for experts to discuss how to broaden the Kannada language and its scope, it also gave a platform to book lovers by providing various books under one roof.
Seven stalls were set up at the university campus where various publishers exhibited their books.
The stall owners made a brisk business as most books came with a 10% discount. Surabhi Publishers, Sundar Publishers, Competitive Book Center, Sahitya Bandhar, Sapna Book Stall and others and made a business of around Rs 4 lakh and sold around 5,000 books during the three-day event. Along with books written by S L Bhyrappa, U R Ananthamurthy, Kuvempu and other renowned writers, competitive books were in great demand.
Raghavendra, sales executive of Sapna book stall said: "We sold around 900 books and CDs of award winning Kannada movies. Manase Relax by Swami Sukhabodhananda, Samsodana Marg by MM Kalburgi, Nenapina Doniyali and Malegalalli Madumagalu by Kuvempu were in great demand.''
Pallav Venkatesh, Pallavi Publishers, said that he saw demand for Maya Kannadi and Brief History of Time (translated).
Harsha Kundgol, MA student, said: "Last eyar, I couldn't buy many books due to the financial crunch. But this year, I bought seven books by paying Rs 950. The books include Nenapina Doniyali by Kuvempu and others related to my syllabus.''
Srinath Kumbar, an employee of a private company and a book lover, said he was delighted to see so many books under one roof. "I am here to buy Karnataka Sangathi by Baraguru Ramchandra.''
